As part of the wider FBCS internship program, the church offers an advanced course specifically for worship leadership. The challenge was to separate this “apprenticeship” from the general internship pool. We needed a promotional piece that appealed to prospective college students but communicated a higher level of rigor, musicality, and commitment than a standard summer volunteer role.
To signal that this program was rooted in musical excellence, the visual identity moved away from generic “church” imagery. Instead, we looked to the history of music production. The goal was to create a brand that felt classic, timeless, and substantial, appealing to serious musicians looking to hone their craft.
The custom “WA” monogram was strategically designed with a dual concept in mind:
Vintage Aesthetic: Its high-contrast serif structure emulates the logos found on vintage audio gear and amplifiers, lending the program a timeless, technical authority.
Sound Wave Conceptualism: The unique geometry of the ‘W' and 'A’ subtly creates the impression of a sound wave frequency, directly communicating the craft of audio and music at the heart of the Worship Apprenticeship.
To support this moody, serious tone, we utilized a deep purple and blue duotone treatment on the photography. This allows the crisp white typography to dominate the hierarchy and create visual depth.
The brochure required organizing a dense curriculum into digestible sections. I utilized a strict column grid to break down the program’s core philosophy giving each pillar its own breathing room. This structure ensures that prospective students can quickly scan the requirements and understand the depth of the education provided.
The new identity and brochure successfully positioned the Worship Apprenticeship as a premium, advanced track within the organization. The vintage-inspired branding resonated with the target demographic of college-aged musicians, helping to distinguish the program as a serious educational opportunity.
